Pfizer Colleagues Raise Over €425k for Irish Cancer Society

Press Release

Monday, 11th August, 2025- Pfizer colleagues and friends today presented the Irish Cancer Society with a cheque for €425,355 following extensive colleague-led fundraising efforts as part of the 2025 Pfizer Move for Cancer initiative.

Move for Cancer involved a programme of activities - including runs, walks, swimathons, sport competitions, music gigs, and bake sales – rolled out at Pfizer sites across Ireland, aimed at raising awareness of the impact of cancer on patients and their loved ones, and raising much-needed funds for the Irish Cancer Society. The initiative culminated in the 2025 Pfizer Cycle which saw 250 colleagues and friends pedal with a purpose in the name of cancer, as they cycled almost 300km across the country from Grange Castle, Co. Dublin to Newbridge, Co. Kildare and onto Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork.

Speaking at today’s event, Averil Power from The Irish Cancer Society, said: “We are so grateful to Pfizer in Ireland and its employees for their unwavering support and ongoing generosity. One in two of us will hear the words ‘You’ve got cancer’ in our lifetimes. There isn’t a family in Ireland that hasn’t felt the impact of a cancer diagnosis. Pfizer Ireland’s incredible “Move for Cancer” initiative helps ensure cancer patients and their families have access to vital free services and supports like counselling, transport to treatment and Night Nursing. Your generous donations will also fund ground-breaking cancer research, bringing us closer to our vision of a future where no one dies from the disease. None of this vital work would be possible without you, we cannot thank you enough.”

John Sourke, VP, Sterile Injectables and Biotech Operations also addressed the event, saying: "Cancer is a devastating disease that touches far too many lives, so this initiative is a deeply personal one to many of those involved. The roots of ‘Move for Cancer’ trace back to 2019, when Liam Ryan, a Pfizer colleague who passed away from cancer, envisioned a cycle event to raise money in support of The Irish Cancer Society’s programming. His legacy has lived on in every kilometer cycled and euro raised since our first event. 2025 is the fourth year of the cycle and this year we have raised almost as much as the three previous years combined so we are incredibly proud to be able to hand over such a significant sum today, bringing the total raised since the first Pfizer Cycle to €871,806.

“A huge thank you to all those who took part and helped us to reach this goal to improve the lives of cancer patients and their families across Ireland. Cancer is a formidable challenge, but by working together, we can outpace, outsmart, and outmanoeuvre this disease.”
